BEA 5, Fairmont 2
It took two days, but the Blue Earth Area girls tennis team defeated the Fairmont Cardinals, 5-2.
The tournament was originally scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 29th, but due to forecasted rain, the tournament was moved up to 2 pm.
The teams were able to complete four of their seven matches before rain halted play on Thursday, with the decision made to complete the matches the following day.
“We were up 3-1 going into Friday.” BEA coach Spencer Monson said. “Our No. 3 doubles team went into the third set. Addie (Addison Presher) lost a set at No. 1 singles, but took a 4-2 lead in the second set. Then she was down 4-5, but then she won nine games in a row to come back.”
The two teams traded wins and losses in singles matches, but the Buccaneers dominated the doubles matches.
“Our two teams were evenly matched, so it was a fun game.” Monson commented: “The improvement of our doubles team was on display in this match. Their high level of play helped us win the match.”

In the No. 1 singles match, the Cardinals’ Emilia Crandahld defeated Grace Hanson 6-1, 6-0.
