ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating what appears to be a “fake” explosive device that was placed at a shopping center in South Fulton Saturday morning, according to city police.
Cobb County Police, South Fulton Police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are at the Tri-County Police Station on Old National Highway. The shopping center, which also houses a Family Dollar and several other stores, has been cordoned off with crime scene tape.
South Fulton Police Maj. Craig Kailimai said a passerby saw someone throwing an object in the shopping center’s parking lot and called police about 12:30 a.m. Officers thought it might be an explosive and called in the Atlanta Police Department’s explosive ordnance disposal unit, the major said.
Police found another device while searching the area, and Kailimai said both devices appeared to be fake.
Police do not believe the shopping centre was specifically targeted.
“Everything is safe,” Kailimai said. “I just want to say to those who are willing to do that, we will do a thorough investigation and we will find you.”
The investigation is ongoing, so stay with Atlanta News First for more information as it becomes available.
