Thousands of additional brands that use Shopify can now offer their products for creators to tag in shopping-related videos on YouTube.
YouTube and Shopify have expanded their partnership to allow all qualifying Shopify Plus and Advanced merchants in the U.S. to sign up for the YouTube Shopping affiliate program through Shopify’s Google & YouTube app, YouTube announced in a blog post on Tuesday (August 20).
Through the expanded partnership, these merchants will join hundreds of U.S. brands that are already part of the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program, according to the post.
For creators, the update will unlock thousands of new brands that can be tagged in shoppable content across YouTube, according to the post.
YouTube also said in the post that it has added a new Chrome extension that makes it easier for U.S. creators in its affiliate program to save products while browsing brand or retailer sites and tag them in their videos later.
According to the post, the YouTube Shopping extension will allow creators to see how much money they can make by tagging products without leaving the site.
“We’re excited to announce these updates to YouTube Shopping as we continue to help merchants and creators collaborate more effectively and build thriving businesses,” Suyog Karnawat, product manager for YouTube Shopping, wrote in the post.
YouTube and Shopify first partnered in July 2022 to allow creators and merchants to integrate their Shopify stores into YouTube Shopping, and said these shopping features would allow creators and merchants to feature products for sale through their livestreams, videos, and store tabs.
In another development in the shoppable video space, Amazon Live in April unveiled new interactive shoppable channels called FAST Channels on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, employing the e-commerce giant’s “shop the show” technology to allow viewers to purchase and engage with the content they are watching.
Also in April, Paramount partnered with Shopsense AI, an artificial intelligence-powered retail media platform, to integrate mobile shopping opportunities into its TV and streaming content, a solution designed to help traditional entertainment companies stay uniquely positioned amid the rise of commerce-integrated media.
