CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confirm three people were shot in the parking lot of Blakeney Shopping Center in Ballantyne Sunday night.
Witnesses said the shooting victims were teenagers.
Sunday’s shooting happened around 10 p.m., just outside the Old Navy and Palmetto Sun stores.
One of the victims was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, while the other two suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
At about 8.30pm the following night, a Channel 9 crew arrived in Blakeney to speak to customers about the safety of young people who had gathered in the car park.
Some just seem to hang out, while others are seen speeding and doing burnouts in the parking lot while blasting loud, vulgar music.
Channel 9’s Jonathan Lowe spoke with nearby resident Paul Zambrano.
Zambrano said he was walking his dog the night before the shooting happened.
“We saw a lot of teenagers burning tires, luxury cars, big trucks. We were very close to the scene and kids started running and screaming: ‘Shoot, shoot, shoot,'” he said. “I mean, we were close. Kids were taking videos on their phones of blood on the floor, but we couldn’t find anyone.”
Resident David Bankole said he was shocked by the shooting.
“I thought I was pretty safe,” Bankall said. “I was shocked to hear something happened last night.”
Police have not announced any arrests.
