IRON MOUNTAIN — A car crashed into a building on Stevenson Avenue in downtown Iron Mountain early Wednesday afternoon after the driver apparently became ill, according to city police and fire.
The vehicle was stopped on Stevenson Street south of Brown Street around noon Wednesday when it drove over the curb, struck three concrete flower beds on the sidewalk, then struck a fire hydrant before crashing into the Blomquist Architects building on the corner of East Brown Street.
Witnesses said the driver appeared to be unconscious, according to a news release from Iron Mountain Police and Fire Chief Jeffrey Solka.
The driver was taken to Marshfield Dickinson Medical Center and is reportedly in stable condition.
Police and fire were assisted at the scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Integrity Care EMS and Iron Mountain Public Works Department.
