With Deshaun Watson retaining the starting quarterback role and Jameis Winston joining the Cleveland Browns as the new backup, the team is missing second-year playmaker Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
And, with him reportedly being discussed in trade talks, his days with the franchise may be limited.
Thompson Robinson, Cleveland’s fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, started three games as a rookie with Watson sidelined with an injury. He competed with Tyler Huntley for the No. 3 quarterback spot during the offseason, and according to The Athletic’s Zach Jackson, the Browns have had trade talks with “multiple teams” for the second-year point guard.
According to Jackson, the Browns could trade Thompson-Robinson to acquire an experienced offensive lineman or someone with experience at another position.
Former UCLA quarterback Thompson Robinson went 1-2 last season as a starter, completing 60 of 112 passes for 440 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Thompson Robinson also rushed 14 times for 65 yards, an area in which he was more effective in his final two college seasons.
Including the 2021 and 2022 seasons at UCLA, he has totaled 1,254 yards on the ground and 21 touchdowns.
It is unclear which teams the Browns have discussed a potential trade with, but with the Aug. 27 deadline for cutting rosters to 53 players looming, any trade would have to be finalized quickly.
