Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump faced off in a presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
This was the first debate between the two candidates and took place less than two months before Election Day, but it was actually the second presidential debate of this election cycle.
President Joe Biden withdrew from the race after a disastrous performance in a June debate and threw his support behind Ms Harris, who is seeking to win the Democratic nomination and become the first woman president of the United States.
Trump, who survived an assassination attempt eight days before Biden withdrew, is the Republican nominee for third consecutive term.
Tuesday’s debate was moderated by ABC News’ David Muir and Lindsey Davis, and the rules were the same as those used for the Biden-Trump debate: There was no spectator and, with a few exceptions, microphones were muted while the rival candidates were speaking.
