St. John Bosco, a national powerhouse in high school sports, has been making administrative changes under Salesian guidance to “best position” the school for future success.
The school’s president, Brian Wickstrom, stepped down on July 24 and other changes may be coming, according to a statement sent on behalf of Salesian Provincial Father Mel Trinidad.
The school has invested millions of dollars in facility upgrades, including a $7.2 million football stadium that opened in 2018 and a new baseball field currently under construction.
Head football coach Jason Negro is rooting for Salesian and said, “We’re in a great position.”
“I think it’ll be OK,” said basketball coach Matt Dunn, who just returned from leading his team on a 17-day tour of China. “It’s good to have Salesian have a presence on campus.”
“Over the past few months, the Salesian Congregation has been considering how to best position SJB for future success. It became apparent that Fr Mel Trinidad, the current Salesian Provincial, and other corporate members of SJB needed to play a larger role in guiding the school’s leadership and shaping its future,” the statement said.
“As a result, several leadership changes have been directed in the governance of the school, we have also implemented a number of other changes recently and expect further changes to occur in the future.
“The purpose of these efforts is to better align the school’s management and administration with the Salesian vision. Salesian prays that these changes will enable SJB’s faculty and staff to better serve SJB students and their families in the spirit of St. John Bosco.”
