Anticipation is building for the 2024 regular season. Teams are preparing for Week 1 matchups, but 53-man rosters must be finalized before they can prepare for the season opener.
The deadline for cutting 53-man rosters is Tuesday, August 28, and all 32 teams have until 4 p.m. ET to trim their rosters from 90 to 53. With many cuts being made across the league, the decision to release players will be even tougher than in years past.
Additionally, there are veteran vesting rules that come into play with roster cuts. These rules define players as “vested” after four NFL seasons and give these players additional benefits, such as waiver wire waivers if they are cut and a guaranteed salary if they are on the active roster in Week 1 of the regular season. Practice squads can have up to four vested veterans, allowing them access to big names on cutdown day; however, teams also have the option of keeping them on the practice squad since they are not subject to waivers.
Below is an updated tracker of roster cuts for all 32 teams, keeping in mind that many of these players will eventually be acquired by other teams or return to their original teams’ 2024 practice squads.
