The Bucknell University football team scored three straight touchdowns in just over three minutes to take a 27-7 lead over the Marist Red Foxes by halftime and added another in the second half to win 34-18 on Saturday night at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium.
This was Bucknell’s 10th consecutive win in the Marist Series, and they improved to 2-2 on the season.
Ralph Rucker IV completed 21 of 27 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns, and TJ Cadden scored his second punt return touchdown of the season to lead the Bison. Cadden, Eric Weatherly and Charlie Kleinbucher all caught TD passes as Bucknell moved to 1-1 at home.
Bucknell’s offense was boosted to 458 total yards, but the Bisons added touchdowns on defense and special teams as they played strong in all three phases of the game. Rucker, who completed his first 13 passes of the game, threw his second touchdown pass to Kleinbucher early in the second quarter to break a 7-7 tie. Cadden returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown a few plays later, and Alex Smith Jr. returned an interception 36 yards on the ensuing drive to put the Bisons up for three points with 3:22 to go in the game.
Aaron Davis recorded an interception along with Smith, while Gavin Willis had nine tackles and the Bucknell defense held Marist to just one score through three quarters. Brandon Biaggiarelli recorded two of Bucknell’s four sacks. Marist totaled 435 yards of offense, including 209 yards passing by quarterback Sonny Mannino.
