STATE COLLEGE — No. 10 Penn State thrashed Kent State, 56-0, on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions eclipsed the team single-game record with 718 yards and 40 first downs.
PSU’s previous record for total yards was set on Sept. 25, 1926, when the Nittany Lions piled up 711 yards of offense in an 82-0 victory over Susquehanna at New Beaver Field. Penn State’s 40 first downs on Saturday surpassed the previous program record of 38 set on Nov. 10, 1962, against the West Virginia Mountaineers at Beaver Stadium.
Tight end Tyler Warren had two touchdowns on the day, one pass and one reception, becoming the first Penn State player other than a quarterback to record both a passing and receiving touchdown since 2022 wide receiver Ke’Andre Lambert-Smith.
The Nittany Lions dominated every aspect of the game against the Golden Flashes, outgaining them in total yards, 718 to 67. Additionally, Penn State’s defense contained Kent State and didn’t allow the offense to get into the red zone. This was the Blue and White’s first shutout win since their 42-0 victory over Michigan State at Ford Field on Nov. 24 last season.
Quarterback Drew Aller completed 17 of 21 passes for 309 yards, his second career 300-plus yard game and three touchdowns. Warren was Aller’s go-to target, totaling 49 yards and one touchdown. Warren was involved in Penn State’s first two touchdowns of the game, catching a 16-yard pass from Aller and then throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to running back Nicholas Singleton.
Warren is the first Penn State player to throw a touchdown pass outside of a quarterback since Trey Potts threw one to Warren in 2023. Quarterback Beau Pribula completed six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown in the second half for Aller. Wide receiver Omari Evans was the Nittany Lions’ top target through the air, catching four passes for a career-high 116 yards.
Penn State’s offense finished the day converting 7 of 7 red zone scoring opportunities.
On the ground, Singleton and Kaytron Allen were the dynamic duo for the Nittany Lions. Singleton ran 11 times for 81 yards and a touchdown, while Allen rushed 11 times for 66 yards. Penn State outgained Kent State, 309-48, on the afternoon.
Penn State’s stellar defense held Kent State to 67 total yards on an average of 1.6 yards per play. Additionally, the defense only allowed the Golden Flashes to complete two passes, both of which came in the first half. Anthony Speca led the team with five total tackles. Defensive end Abdul Carter also recorded four tackles, while safety Jalen Reed and linebacker Tamele Robinson each recorded three stops. As a team, the Nittany Lion defense stopped five passes and recorded two sacks.
