HONOLULU (Island News) – The state of Hawaii will pay the PGA Tour about $2 million to host three tournaments in the Hawaiian Islands early next year, according to information obtained by Island News.
The 2025 PGA Tour “Aloha Swing” includes the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Maui, the Sony Open on Oahu and the Mitsubishi Electric Championship on Hawaii Island and is expected to bring more than $100 million in revenue to Hawaii in 2024.
State officials say that number is likely to increase because the Sentry Tournament of Champions will be a “higher level event” with additional arena space and production staff.
The state also said that after researching possible alternatives, it was determined that the PGA Tour is the only professional golf organization that would host tournaments in the state.

Hawaii to pay NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers $750,000 to hold training camp and games in Honolulu
State officials said sponsorship of these tournaments aligns with the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s strategic plan and allows it to reach key sending markets and appeal to target travelers.
Island News also first reported that the state will pay the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers $750,000 to hold a training camp and play a game against the Golden State Warriors in Honolulu in October.
The state says these sporting events clearly meet the HTA Board-approved goals of sports sponsorship: expanding Hawaii’s brand image and marketing, benefiting local communities and generating economic benefits.
