Everyone loves a great comeback, and in 2004, the Boston Red Sox were unstoppable — not even the infamous “Curse of the Bambino” nor the rival New York Yankees. Released earlier this year, the documentary series “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox” charts one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, as the Boston Red Sox won their first World Series after an 86-year drought.
The three-part series features exclusive interviews with players such as Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz and Kevin Millar, the team’s former manager Terry Francona, former general manager and executive vice president Theo Epstein and many others who were instrumental in the 2004 championship.
“The Comeback,” which premieres on October 23, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the team’s groundbreaking postseason, when the Red Sox overcame a 3-0 playoff deficit against the Yankees to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Since then, the Red Sox have won three more championships, making them the team with the most titles since the millennium. Baseball fans can also expect more details on the team’s iconic feud with the Yankees, both on and off the field.
Directed by Colin Barnicle, The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox is produced by Meadowlark Media and Barnicle Brothers in association with MLB. Executive producers include Nick Barnicle, Colin Barnicle, John Skipper, Deirdre Fenton, Howard Bryant, Melody Shafir, Nick Davis and Nick Trotta.
