Kansas City remains the overwhelming favorite in the AFC West, but the next two teams competing for the next best spot in the division are the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers, both of which will have new head coaches in 2024.
Antonio Pierce has led the Raiders to wins in three of their final four games in 2023 and is no longer the interim head coach as a result.
The Chargers have been losing consistently over the past few seasons under head coach Brandon Staley, which is where Jim Harbaugh, the former Michigan Wolverines head coach, comes in to take the reins.
The last time the two teams met was on Dec. 14, when the Raiders crushed the Chargers, 63-14. Ironically, that game led to the promotion of Antonio Pierce, the firing of Brandon Staley and the hiring and eventual hiring of Jim Harbaugh. Sunday will mark Harbaugh’s first time on an NFL sideline since 2014.

Latest Raiders vs Chargers odds – Week 1
The latest odds from DraftKings as of Saturday afternoon:
Moneyline: Las Vegas (+130), Los Angeles (-155) Spread: Chargers -3 Total: 40
The line is exactly the same as it was at the start of the season, but the total has plummeted from its opening 44 points. Vegas’ shaky center play and the Chargers’ lack of difference-makers at the skill positions are no doubt to blame for the plummeting total.
Be sure to check out DraftKings for the latest game odds and player props for every matchup on this week’s NFL schedule.

Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) agrees that a total of 40 is an abnormally low number for an NFL game, but still prefers the under.
“We project Los Angeles and Vegas to win by 41 or less points combined because the division under has been one of the most profitable strategies in the NFL over the past five years. But we get Gardner Minshew for Vegas and Justin Herbert for the Chargers, but without any of the weapons from last year’s team.”
