While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s fashion sense made headlines Saturday for the casual outfit he wore while attending the formal reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, at least one person in Pennsylvania There were fans.
The Ukrainian leader opted for a rugged black sweatshirt, black slacks and brown combat boots for both the ceremony and a preliminary meeting with President-elect Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace .
“Everyone wears business clothes. But not Mr. Zelensky. He shows up in a sweater and jacket. He’s an embarrassment, or he should be,” one X user wrote.
But Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), who wore a hoodie, had no objection to the outfit, telling the Post that it was a “mood.”
President Zelenskiy’s military sweatshirt featured a symbol similar to the official coat of arms of Ukraine’s armed forces. President Zelenskiy had the emblem on a T-shirt he wore as he asked the U.S. Congress for more help to repel Russian invaders in 2022.
Trump adviser Roger Stone said the attire was “disrespectful to the American people.”
“Can’t he afford a suit? He wore a suit and tie to the World Economic Forum event, but he can’t wear a suit when he speaks at a joint session of Congress or meets the next president of the United States. No?’” he told the Post.
