However, most grocery stores, retailers and restaurant chains will remain open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day this year.

USPS told USA TODAY that U.S. Postal Service post offices will close on January 1 and no mail will be delivered that day. USPS will resume normal operations on Thursday, January 2nd.
Are banks open on New Year’s Day?
Branches at Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Trust and Citibank will close on January 1, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY. The Capital One Cafe will also be closed on New Year’s Day, the company said.
Are delivery services like UPS and FedEx open on New Year’s Day?
UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on New Year’s Day, and UPS Store locations may be closed, according to the company’s website. Please check with your local store for specific business hours.

FedEx pickup and delivery services will also be unavailable on January 1, and FedEx offices will also be closed on the same day, according to the company’s website.
