Des Moines, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol) – December is likely to be the month Iowans learn the name of their next lieutenant governor. In January, details of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ new proposal to place limits on cell phone use in public school classrooms are expected to be released. And at some point in 2025, we should see new answers from the new administration about the governor’s plan to help families pay for groceries over the summer.
Iowa will be without a lieutenant governor for three months. Adam Gregg announced on September 3 that he will step down from the role he has held since 2017 to become the new leader of the Iowa Bankers Association.
Governors are expected to announce details of plans to restrict student cell phone use in classrooms during their annual address in January.
The governor believes the Trump administration may be more positive about the plan it wants, rather than the federal government’s plan. The USDA under the Biden administration rejected Iowa’s plan. Hunger advocates fear families won’t get the help they need next summer.
