Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das hosted the 2024 International Emmy Awards earlier this week. He is the first Indian to host the prestigious and popular television and streaming awards.
Das, who won an International Emmy Award last year for his stand-up special “Landing,” shared part of his opening monologue on his social media on Thursday.
“I’m so grateful to host the International Emmy Awards. I gave a monologue about…well…to very formal and very beautiful people from all over the world,” Das wrote.
What Vir Das said about Donald Trump and Elon Musk
Vir Das poked fun at several topics in his monologue, including cultural stereotypes and world politics, among others.
He also referenced the recent US presidential election, naming Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
“You chose someone to guide you, to make all your decisions, to be the most powerful person in the world. And I think you chose well. Yes, he’s crazy. I mean, he’s intelligent, he’s successful, he’s a great businessman.” Folks, Elon Musk is a legend,” Das quipped.
He also criticized Musk’s control of the White House and President Trump’s administration.
“Technically it’s self-driving, but ultimately I’m in control,” Das said of Musk. “Keep Elon Musk happy, okay? He’ll buy your platform and turn it into a podcast.”
Donald Trump won a second term as President of the United States in the 2024 presidential election, winning 295 electoral votes and defeating his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, who received 226 votes.
President Trump also named Musk and Indian-born entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). They already have plans to eliminate “thousands of regulations” and reduce the size of the government workforce.
