Former Welsh rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit’s signing with the Kansas City Chiefs has made headlines, but it remains to be seen whether the young athlete will sign with the team permanently.
Rees-Zammit got his chance to shine against the Jaguars on Saturday, and while Chiefs fans were met with mixed reactions, the American football convert won the short possession and completed a successful kickoff run 23 yards.
Although his time on the field in preseason games hasn’t translated into any points, Rees-Zammit can still be impressive when he has the ball, as evidenced by this video posted to the Chiefs’ official Twitter account.
Check out this clip from the Chiefs’ official Twitter account: The Kansas City Chiefs’ new Welsh running back can be seen working perfectly with third quarterback Chris Oladokun to evade an interception attempt by rookie linebacker Curtis Jacobs, then evade a tackle attempt by rookie cornerback DJ Miller, hold onto the ball and charge down the field in practice.
Rees-Zammit is likely to play against the Detroit Lions as the Chiefs’ leadership needs to decide who will be on the roster for 2024. The former rugby player will need to impress the competition to stay on the team.
