Retailers respond to changing customer shopping habits by running holiday sales earlier and for longer across their unmatched assortment.
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced plans to kick off the holiday shopping season earlier than ever before and help customers have a memorable holiday season with consistent low prices and a convenient experience no matter when, where or how they shop throughout the season.
This year, nearly 50% of consumers expect to start their holiday shopping as early as August or September1, as people remain price-sensitive and plan ahead to make the most of their holiday budgets. To accommodate where and how customers are shopping, Walmart will help customers get a head start on their shopping with holiday discounts starting in October, including the first holiday sales event of the season and the return of non-inflationary holiday meals, several weeks earlier than usual.
“We know many of our customers are starting to prepare for their holiday celebrations early, and we’ve adjusted our approach to best meet their needs,” said LaTrease Watkins, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, Walmart U.S. “We’ve worked hard to lower prices on our most attractive selection ever, and we’re excited to give our customers what they want this holiday season – more time to prepare and more opportunities to save throughout the season.”

Great savings on delicious holiday meals from Thanksgiving onwards
Walmart is once again countering inflation by offering a traditional Thanksgiving meal at an even lower price than last year, ensuring customers can prepare their holiday table without compromise. This year’s Walmart holiday meal serves up to 10 people and includes 28 customer favorite items, from turkey (under $1 per pound!) to sides and dessert, all for the amazing price of less than $7 per person.
Walmart is offering Non-Inflation Holiday Meal Week earlier this year to give customers even more savings. From Oct. 14 through Dec. 25, customers can purchase all of their holiday meal essentials at discounted prices with just one click in stores and on Walmart.com, making it easier and more affordable to enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas or Sunday night dinner all season long. New this year, customers can gift a complete holiday meal to have pick-up or delivery to neighbors, friends and family anywhere in the country, making it easier to celebrate with people near and far.
And this season of giving, Walmart and The Salvation Army are teaming up to offer customers options to help in ways big and small to support the families The Salvation Army serves in their communities.
New this year, when you purchase a holiday meal on Walmart.com, you can donate the value of your holiday meal to a local family with just one click or round up the amount of your purchase on Walmart.com. At Walmart stores, you can donate to Red Kettles outside or buy gifts for children in need through our Angel Tree program.
Last year, customers and members raised more than $34 million to support their local Salvation Army units, and this year’s campaign builds on Walmart and the Walmart Foundation’s longstanding support of the Salvation Army, donating more than $7 million over the past five years.
Experience the holiday magic with the ultimate convenience option
Whether customers shop online, in an app or in-store, they can be confident their items will arrive on time, even for last-minute gifts. Walmart’s best-in-class pickup and delivery fits customers’ needs, lifestyles and preferences, with early morning deliveries available as early as 6 a.m. and express deliveries available in as little as 30 minutes. New this year, the retailer is using new AI technology to expand its delivery reach, reaching an additional 12 million homes.
As Walmart prepares all year long to make the holiday shopping season amazing for its customers, it’s ready to serve them with a next-generation supply chain and a world-class team of employees. The retailer recently invested in creating a more connected supply chain, so customers can be confident that Walmart will deliver what they want, need and love, at the speed they need, any time of the season.
The company also hires employees year-round and will initially offer current employees extra hours as needed. Walmart stores will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day to allow employees to spend the day with their families.
From the hottest deals to the most delicious meals, Walmart helps customers get through the season with confidence by providing consistent low prices and a convenient experience no matter when, where or how they shop.
