The Kaiser volleyball team remained undefeated this season with two wins on the final day of the Vipers Sports Academy Classic on Saturday. The Seahawks improved to 5-0 this year with wins over Spartanburg Methodist (25-9, 25-20, 25-14) and Olivet Nazarene (25-23, 21-25, 25-8, 25-18).
On the day, Kaiser recorded a .299 hitting percentage, 95 total kills (13.57 per set), and held opponents to a .094 hitting percentage. The Seahawks had six players record nine or more kills on the day, including Mackenzie Pryor, who recorded 31 total kills (4.43 per set) and a .296 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Isabella Steffel recorded a team-best .414 hitting percentage (minimum 20 total attempts) with 14 kills and four total blocks. Freshman Kaitlyn Baxley had a solid day, recording 13 kills on a .360 hitting percentage. Seahawks freshmen led the team with nine total blocks. Libero Faith Marquis averaged 5.00 digs per set on Saturday, totaling 35 digs. Meanwhile, setter Hannah Hyde added 65 assists on Saturday, and the Jupiter, Fla., native finished the weekend with 183 assists (10.76 per set).

Set 1 (KU, 25-9)
The Seahawks scored nine straight points to take a 9-0 lead to start the set. After two straight points by the Pioneers, Mackenzie Pryor scored a kill to put the Seahawks up 10-2. Another kill from Pryor extended the Seahawks’ lead to 10 points, 13-3. A kill from Frederica Silva started a 5-0 run to make the score 18-4. Back-to-back kills from Emma Freese and Kaitlyn Baxley ended the set 25-9. Kaiser had a .684 attacking percentage and no hitting errors in the set.
Set 2 (KU, 25-20)
A kill from Brantley Price put the Pioneers up 4-1. The Seahawks tied the set at 4-4 on an attacking error by McKinley Smart. With the Seahawks leading 10-9, a kill from Hannah Heide tied the set at 10-10. A back-three attack extended the lead to three points, giving KU a 14-12 lead. With the score tied at 16-16, Kaiser went on a 9-4 run to close out the set, 25-20.
Set 3 (KU, 25-14)
Heide (two kills) and Pryor (one kill) gave Kaiser an early 3-1 lead. Isabella Steffel started a run of five straight points with a kill to put the Seahawks ahead 12-5. Hannah Mary Herrick added consecutive kills to extend the Seahawks’ lead to 18-10. A service ace from Faith Marquis capped off three straight points for the Seahawks to put Kaiser ahead 23-13. A back-three kill and an attacking error by SMC’s Rebecca Martin gave KU the set and the match, 25-14.

Set 1 (KU, 25-23) After a Pryor kill, ONU scored four straight points to take a 4-1 lead. A Kaitlin Kolb kill extended the Tigers’ lead to 7-2. KU got within 7-6 on block assists from Pryor and Baxley. A Silva kill tied the score at 9-9. ONU retook the lead and held it until a Silva kill tied the score at 18-18. Halle Nicholas gave the Tigers a 23-22 lead, but Kaiser scored three straight points, including a Pryor kill, to seal the set. Set 2 (ONU, 25-21) The Tigers started the set up 3-1 on block assists from Kaitlin Kolb and Ella Johnson. The Seahawks tied the set at 6-6 on a solo block from Heide. Kaiser took the lead on an attacking error by Addison Schmidt to extend its lead to 9-6. ONU scored three straight points to take a 13-10 lead. The Seahawks rallied again and tied the game at 18-18 on a kill by Pryor. The Tigers went on a 7-3 run to take the second set, 25-21.
Set 3 (KU, 25-8)
The Seahawks came out on top quickly in the third set, leading 9-3 on a kill by Pryor. A kill by ONU’s Kelsey Todd cut Kaiser’s lead to 11-4, but the Seahawks went on a 12-2 run to pull within 23-6. Pryor gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead with a kill to win the set 25-8.
Set 4 (KU, 25-18)
After an early 3-1 Kaiser lead, ONU went on an 8-1 run to take a 9-4 lead behind block assists from Halle Nicholas and Ella Johnson. The Tigers extended their lead to 12-6 on a kill from Johnson. KU chipped away at ONU’s lead, closing to within two at 17-15. A kill from Silva followed by an attack error by Nicholas for the Tigers tied the set at 17-17. ONU retook the lead at 18-17 on a kill from Nicholas. The Seahawks went on an 8-0 run behind kills from Steffel (2), Heide (2) and Silva (1) to take the set and the match.
The Seahawks finished the day with a .299 hitting percentage with 95 kills (13.57 per set). Defensively, Kaiser held opponents to a .094 hitting percentage. The Seahawks finished the day with 107 digs (15.29 per set) and 92 assists (13.14 per set). Outside hitter Mackenzie Pryor led the Seahawks with 31 kills (4.43 per set) in seven sets. Middle blocker Isabella Steffel hit a team-high .414 (min. 20 attempts) with 14 kills and four blocks. Libero Faith Marquis averaged 5.00 digs per set on Saturday and totaled 35 digs. The Seahawks will host Oregon Tech and Benedictine Mesa on Monday, Aug. 19. Kaiser will play Oregon Tech at 10 a.m., then take on Benedictine Mesa at 2 p.m.
