A year before my wife’s 52nd birthday, I wanted to do something special to celebrate this milestone. She loves traveling as much as I do, so I started planning a surprise trip.
In the eight years we spent together, we traveled to 26 countries. We shared many other travel memories, including kissing on top of the Eiffel Tower, nearly losing our bellies riding camels through the Pyramids of Giza, and many more.
Even though I felt pressured to plan the perfect birthday trip, I still had to consider the cost.
Luckily, after a year of strategically accumulating credit card points and miles, I was able to afford a two-week trip to five European countries.
Here are my ways to avoid taking economy flights or staying in cheap hotels.
