A person was injured and treated in a shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital in Michigan on Thursday, ABC News quoted police saying.
In a message posted on social media, the Troy Police Department advised the public to avoid the area, saying that the suspects were not in custody.
“This looks like an isolated incident, but the suspect is not in custody. Please avoid the area,” the Troy Police Department said in a statement from X.
Meanwhile, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital confirmed that a person was injured in the incident.
“One victim is in the emergency department for treatment. A scheduled patient should not come to the hospital at this time. Patients can call the department where they are scheduled for service directly. No other information is available at this time.”
“The hospital is being locked down due to a wealth of attention,” Corewell Health said.
Previous Incident:
Earlier in February, a man armed with a Pennsylvania pistol and carrying a zip tie took hospital staff to hostages in an intensive care unit before being killed by police in a shooting that killed an officer, officials said.
According to the York County District Attorney, the shooter, identified as 49-year-old Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, appears to have intentionally targeted the hospital after contacting the intensive care unit for medical care involving someone else at the beginning of the week.
Hospital violence is on the rise not only in the emergency department, but also in the maternity wards and intensive care units, said Dick Sem, the hospital’s security consultant.
In hospital attacks, unlike random mass shootings elsewhere, shooters often target someone and sometimes resent the care given to their dead relatives, he added.
