The Mazda CX-70, Kia EV9 and Jeep Wagoneer L each won for the first time.
Washington, March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – US News & World Report, a global authority in rankings and consumer advice, today announced the 2025 Best Car for Family Awards. US News rated 100 vehicles and nominated winners in nine categories.
“When it comes to shopping for the right car, people with families have important considerations that play a key role in decision-making,” says Alex Kwanten, AUTOS, US newsmanaging editor. “Whether a family needs to seek a medium-sized sedan, a large three-row SUV or something in between, the best family-friendly cars of 2025 will give everyone something. The award recognizes new models from nine car segments, with each winner offering an outstanding blend of space, safety, relationships, convenience and connectivity.”
Honda and Kia won the most awards this year, with two of them each. When it stands out for its combination of comfort, fuel efficiency, solid safety technology and family-friendly features, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid was awarded the best hybrid SUV to the sixth grade and the 12th overall family. Also, the Hyundai Tucson, which has been winning streaks, is the best compact SUV for the fourth time, but the Chrysler Pacifica is the best minivan for the family for the second year in a row.
The winning Honda cars took home trophies in their respective categories for the first time since 2022. The Honda Accord has won the best medium sized car for the family.
In Kia’s victory, Kia Telluride secured the highest 3-row Midsize SUV for Family Award for six consecutive times. The first-time winner, the 3-row KIA EV9 SUV, was recognized as the best electric vehicle for the family, partly due to its spacious, comfortable and well-equipped cabin.
Other first-time winners include the Jeep Wagonia L, the best large SUV for families, and the Mazda CX-70, the best two-row medium SUV for families. The Wagoneer L, a stretch version of the standard Wagoneer, boasts a huge amount of room for people and cargo, but the CX-70 has strong fuel economy, high-end interiors and excellent safety scores.
The 2025 Best Cars for Family Award criteria examines the overall ratings of each vehicle from the US News Best Car Rankings to determine quality that incorporates elements such as safety data, predicted reliability ratings, passenger and freight space, and car reporting consensus opinions. The award’s methodology also takes into account the availability of family-friendly features, including wireless internet in the car, teen driver control, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alerts, and hands-free cargo area access. Winners were selected based on the highest composite scores in each of the nine vehicle categories. For more information about the methodology, see here.
