Nine days into the new year, if eating better or losing weight is one of your resolutions, U.S. News & World Report has released its annual survey of the best diets for 2025.
In its 15th edition, the multifaceted digital media company collaborates with 69 leading experts in their field: physicians, registered dietitians, nutritional epidemiologists, chefs, and weight loss researchers to expand on 21 categories. We investigated 38 diets.
This year’s list evaluated and ranked diets differently.
“Best Diets’ updated rating rating system reflects the diverse needs and goals of individuals, considering factors beyond weight loss,” said Gretel Schuler, health editor at U.S. News.
According to the report, US News added 12 new Best Diet categories for the rating, all focused on specific health and lifestyle needs.
“By moving away from ranked lists of diets and nearly doubling the number of health and lifestyle categories evaluated, U.S. News is helping consumers consider their health priorities and dietary goals. We aim to provide a more personalized experience for customers,” Schuler said.
The Mediterranean diet leads the way as the most highly rated diet across several categories. The meal consists of 40% carbohydrates, 40% healthy fats, and 20% protein, with extra virgin olive oil as the main fat source, and a plant-based focus on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts. I’m following a based approach. The report states that seafood, poultry, and minimal red meat can be consumed in moderation.
According to US News, below are the best diets and their ratings.
