The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has voted for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The resolution was approved Wednesday with 158 votes in favor, nine against, and 13 abstentions out of the 193-member parliament.
Notably, this is also the first time that Germany and Italy have voted in favor of a Gaza ceasefire. As a result, only the United States continues to oppose it among the seven major developed countries (G7).
Although the General Assembly resolution is not legally binding, it has political significance as it represents world opinion regarding Israel’s war in Gaza.
Here’s a breakdown of how countries voted at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on Wednesday.
