U.S. News and World Report ranks UH No. 1. 74th place Named to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Top Public Schools Rankings.
Although the ranking changed slightly from No. 70 to No. 74, UH continues to make progress in student success metrics and remains committed to its vision of being a top 50 public university.
“Rankings change, but what matters most is our continued focus on student success and steady progress in that area,” President and Provost Renu Kator said in a press release. .
These 2025 rankings come as UH’s six-year graduation rate improves, now at 65%, an increase of 14 percentage points from 2015.
UH’s one-year retention rate also improved, ranking 36th among all national universities in social mobility.
“The University expects to see further movement in rankings in the coming years as graduation rates continue to rise, especially as we move towards our goal of reaching a 70% graduation rate,” said Kevin Quinn, Executive Director of Media. he said.
UH continued to gain points for retention, but lost points because metrics related to first-generation student success were removed.
According to a press release from the University of California, the University of California is in a highly competitive environment with only a 5-point difference from the top 50 public universities.

According to the university and its administration, the university continues to strive toward its goal of becoming one of the top 50 public schools in the nation.
