Rutherford County Schools topped U.S. News & World Report’s annual education rankings of Tennessee’s best elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.
Elementary School: McFadden School of Excellence (K-5, Murfreesboro)
Middle: Central Magnet School (6-8, Murfreesboro)
High School: Central Magnet School (9-12, Murfreesboro)
Thurman Francis Academy of the Arts (K-8) in Smyrna was ranked No. 4 and No. 2 among Tennessee elementary and middle schools, respectively.
Most school rankings are determined by state evaluation data, according to the website. The website says the score places equal emphasis on the score itself and the socio-economic demographic context of the results.
The Tennessee Department of Education released student academic growth scores Thursday, with all three schools achieving Level 5 status, the highest rating given by the state. RCS was recognized as a Level 5 school district, along with 32 of the 48 schools tested. Additionally, RCS boasts a graduation rate of 97.2% for the 2023-2024 academic year.
