USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins shares the Trump administration’s new strategy to combat avian flu as egg prices remain high.
Record egg prices have led Trump officials to “scramble” for a solution to cut costs, but Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has floated options to “quickly” reduce the money he spent on a meal staple.
“We are considering importing some eggs in the short term,” she said Wednesday from the White House lawn.
“We can get eggs quickly with some countries around the world. This isn’t a long-term fix and we’ll start to lower those prices soon.”
The fourth pillar of five extended approaches to alleviate some of the cost burden is that the import of eggs is just part of a more comprehensive plan that involves deregulation, investment in biosecurity, redistribution of poultry, and investment in vaccine and treatment research.

“At the end of the day, policy is important,” Rollins told Fox News’ Dana Perrino.
“The price of eggs we’re looking at now is (causing) long rolls of overregulation, too many rules, too many governments. That’s part of this plan (to expand backback regulations).”
In January, the average price for a single egg reached a record high of 4.95, up from $2.52 a year ago.
Some grocery stores force restrictions to impose due to lack of eggs
Michelle Korsmo, president of the National Restaurant Association, is rolling out the cost of eggs with “Craman Countdown.”
The lack of eggs has led some grocery stores to impose limits on the number of cartons customers can purchase. Some restaurants, including Denny and Waffle House, are beginning to add extra egg charges to alleviate some of the cost burden.
However, Rollins sees the light at the edge of the tunnel.
“We see a critical plan where important funds are moving forward, and we’ll save American taxpayers, American consumers and American poultry farmers around the corner,” she said.
