President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum on Wednesday to accommodate tens of thousands of immigrants at the US Navy base in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
This memorandum calls for the defense and national land security department to provide Guantanamo an additional detention space for a “priority criminal foreigner with illegal priority in the United States.”
“Most people don’t even know about it. Guantanamo has 30,000 beds to restrain the worst crime -threatening illegal foreigners who threaten American people. Trump says from the White House early on that day. Ta.
Trump’s remarks came just before he signed the Laken Riley Law, the first major legislative victory in his second phase. Congress passed it with democratic support earlier this month.
“Today’s signature is one step closer to eradicating the tragedy of immigration crimes in our community,” said Trump.
Trump’s top immigrant adviser later told the CNN that the management of Guantanamo Bay detention facilities for immigrants would be supervised by immigration and customs.
“We are going to expand the existing immigration center,” said the border emperor Tom Homan. “Our immigration center has been overtaken by Miami and the facilities will be supervised.
Secretary of Land Security, Christie Noem, said she could reserve the base to detain what she explained as “worst worst.”
“There may be some resources that can be established for the worst in Guantanamo Bay, which is that he is evaluating with our team of the Ministry of Land and security,” said Noem on Wednesday. “CNN News Central”.
The base is well known for residents where the United States suspects terrorism, but another immigration processing center has been hosted in Guantanamo Bay.
The Biden administration was discussing the center to process Haiti immigrants who had escaped from their deterioration last year. The U.S. military has also prepared a site to host immigrants escaping from the catastrophic 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
However, US officials told the CNN that Guantanamo’s facilities were not ready to accommodate up to 30,000 immigrants.
“There are no more 30,000 beds,” said the US officials that although it had no ability in the 1990s, it no longer existed. He stated that the United States needs to bring “many military staff” to talk about the number of people.
“If they send many immigrants (to Guantanamo), they will need more staff to manage them,” said the officials. “They have what they have now and cannot do it.”
The Cuban government criticized Trump’s plan to accommodate tens of thousands of immigrants.
