Voters are wary of the economy, doges and Democrats
President Donald Trump’s election for a second term has sparked a rise with positive sentiment about the national direction, but voters are beginning to get sour about the state of the economy and his handling so far.
A new NBC News poll found that only 18% of voters rated the economy as “good” or “good”, with the majority denying job performance against the president’s inflation.
Overall, Trump has a 47% approval rating, but 51% have denied his performance early in his second term.
And while voters are embracing efforts to tackle government inefficiency, many are concerned about Elon Musk and the government’s efficiency. 47% hold Doge’s negative views, with 51% specifically disapproving Musk.
There is no good news for Democrats either in the poll. Democrats have reached an all-time low, with only 27% of respondents holding a positive view. It went back to 1990 with the lowest rating on NBC News Polling.

“Meet the media”
Sen. Chris Murphy told NBC News that he is confident in his minority leader Chuck Schumer, but the Democratic Caucus must move with “urgency” and change tactics to “save American democracy.”
When asked why Democrats are not connected to Americans, Murphy said: “Americans think “they want Democrats to stand up, fight and take risks.”
“I think I’m a Democrat in this country, but I’d like to see our party fighting exceptionally in the middle of the wider masses,” Murphy said.
“If we don’t do that right, if we continue to work with Republicans, we will lose our democracy if we continue to pass on more power from Donald Trump,” he added.
