Travis Kelce broke the Kansas City Chiefs’ record, but Taylor Swift wasn’t there to watch.
On Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th), the Chiefs won their 15th win of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acresure Stadium with a final score of 29-10. However, his girlfriend was not present when Kelce achieved the record-breaking moment.
During the fourth quarter of the game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed the ball to Kelce in the end zone, who scored a touchdown. The 12-yard score was Kelce’s first touchdown of the game and the 77th touchdown catch of his career.
This catch surpassed that of Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, who had 76 total touchdown catches. Kelce currently holds the record for most receiving touchdowns in Chiefs history.
After making the catch, Kelce picked up the football and dunked it over the goal post, which was deemed “unsportsmanlike conduct” and gave his team 15 yards for an extra-point field goal. penalty was imposed.
Kelce also reached his 1,000th NFL career catch during the Christmas Day game. He is now the third tight end in league history to reach that mark, trailing only Gonzalez (1,325) and former Dallas Cowboys player Jason Witten (1,228).
The game was part of Netflix’s NFL Christmas game broadcast, with the streaming giant also broadcasting the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, as well as BeyoncĂ©’s halftime show.
Compared to the previous season, Swift did not play as many football games, and most of the games he did play were home games only. This was largely due to her Elas tour schedule, with her last performance in Vancouver, Canada on December 8th.
Despite this schedule, Swift has made an effort to attend every Chiefs home game over the holidays to show support for Kelce.
She reportedly did not appear at many away games this year due to poor security at other soccer stadiums. “There are safety concerns if she goes anywhere other than Arrowhead,” a source previously told Page Six. “She’s worked with Arrowhead many times and they feel safe and comfortable. We have to send teams in advance to go to all kinds of different stadiums.”
The Grammy Award winner did not attend a recent Chiefs game after Kelce appeared to hint at retiring from football.
On last week’s episode of the New Heights podcast he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, he noted that he may have just played his last game in Cleveland.
“I don’t know if this is the last time I’m going to play in Cleveland, but I’ve only played in Cleveland twice in 12 years, so it felt like I was doing one last hurray before it was over.” he said.
Travis is in the midst of his 12th season with the Chiefs. Jason announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this year after playing 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
