Clubs across the continent are in the market for January transfer deals as they look to strengthen their squads for the second half of the 2024/25 season with titles, European football and survival all on the line.
Liverpool and Arsenal are rumoured to be circling new arrivals as they battle it out in the Premier League, and Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo appears to be in the Gunners’ sights after injury to Bukayo Saka. The window could see some big exits confirmed with Trent Alexander-Arnold open to negotiate a possible free transfer to Real Madrid and Manchester United looking to sell Marcus Rashford – with a new ambitious swap for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia reportedly on their radar.
They could face a tussle with Liverpool for the Napoli and Georgia winger as Arne Slot seeks the final piece of what looks a title-winning puzzle. Manchester City’s campaign, by contrast, is in need of reviving, and the Premier League champions are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush and 17-year-old Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis this month as they begin their rebuild.

Slot on Chiesa’s struggles
13:37 , Mike Jones
Arne Slot spoke about Federico Chiesa and when he needs to do to win more more minutes in the Liverpool side. The winger is set to play in Saturday’s FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley in what will be only his fifth appearance of the campaign.
“It’s not only been difficult for him in terms of match fitness, it’s also that he has to compete with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah,” said Slot.
“Everybody here knows the numbers Mo Salah brings in. There’s not many times a reason to take him out during a game or before a game.
“It’s not only about Federico when we are talking about him being limited in his playing time. It’s also about the others.
“But in terms of Federico it definitely has to do with the way he came in, the rest were already training a lot and we had to bring him up in terms of match fitness.
“It’s a combination of reasons why he didn’t play that much yet but let’s wait and see in the upcoming weeks and months if he’s able to help us because the second half of the season is even more important than the first.”
Jorginho to Palmeiras?
13:35 , Mike Jones
ESPN say that Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has been offered to Brazilian side Palmeiras.
The club have reportedly met with the player’s agent to negotiate but there is no offer or proposal at this stage. Jorginho’s contract expires in the summer and the club hold an option to extend his stay for an additional year if they so chose.
Everton show why change was needed in FA Cup win as life after Sean Dyche begins
13:23 , Mike Jones
They are not used to cheering the men in the technical area. Not when they were Everton’s unholy trinity of Sean Dyche, Ian Woan and Steve Stone. But the Goodison roar erupted at the announcement of the duo occupying the dugout. It was probably only for one game, but Everton were managed by Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman. They drew the loudest applause of the night: modern-day Goodison greats, instant reminders of better days.
And if another may soon join them, with the probable return of David Moyes, this was a seismic day for Everton. Not because of the narrow win over Peterborough that was overseen by the old-timers who, when Moyes left in 2013, were arguably the finest pair of flying full-backs in the Premier League. But because of the departure of Sean Dyche.

Como make shock move for Marcus Rashford after Milan interest
13:22 , Mike Jones
Como have entered the race to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United after interest from AC Milan and Juventus.
Sky Sport Italia reports that Como would be more willing to cover the player’s wages, thought to be £325,000 per week, while Cesc Fabregas could also hold some influence.
With Dele Alli, a friend of Rashford’s, training at the club, too, Como are bullish they can strike a deal.
Napoli line up replacement for Kvaratskheila
13:20 , Mike Jones
It seems increasingly likely that Khvicha Kvarartskheila will be leaving Napoli amid interest from PSG and possibly Liverpool.
As such the Italian side have lined up his replacement in the form of Lille’s Edon Zhegrova. Zhegrova has made 21 appearances for the French club so far and performed exceptionally against Juventus in the Champions League.
The price for the forward is believed to be between €25-30m and Napoli plan to use the money from Kvaratskheila’s sale to fund the transfer should they need to.
Man City close in on Khusanov
13:07 , Mike Jones
Manchester City are close to signing RC Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov for €40m (£33.5m).
Reports in Italy say that Khusanov has agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions and the Pep Guardiola has agreed that the move should go ahead.
The 20-year-old defender could join City alongside 18-year-old Vitor Reis of Palmeiras as the club look to build their next great team with a focus on youth.
Valencia in for Aarons?
12:53 , Mike Jones

Amad Diallo on new Man Utd contract:
12:37 , Mike Jones
“I am really proud to have signed this new contract. I have had some incredible moments with this club already but there is so much more to come. I have huge ambitions in the game and I want to achieve history at Manchester United.
“I have learnt so much since arriving here four years ago; I am very grateful to the coaches and staff who have helped me to develop, and to the fans for driving me forward every day.
“It has been a difficult season for everyone, but I fully believe that we are on the right path and the future is going to be really special. I am ready to give everything to help the team and make our supporters proud again.”
Manchester United reward Amad Diallo with long-term contract after breakthrough season
12:23 , Mike Jones
Amad Diallo has said he wants to make history with Manchester United after signing a new five-and-a-half year contract at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire in the summer, has been rewarded for his fine form under new head coach Ruben Amorim after scoring the winner in last month’s Manchester derby and the equaliser in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool.
Amad, a £37m signing from Atalanta in 2021, has excelled as a wing-back and in the front three under Amorim and the Portuguese said he was desperate to keep the attacker, who has now agreed a deal that lasts until 2030.

Man Utd and Real Madrid to fight it out for Ederson?
12:08 , Mike Jones
Manchester United may have to fight off competition from Real Madrid if they hope to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
The 25-year-old is enjoying another strong season in Serie A and is attracting interest from across Europe. He is valued at near £50m and United’s close proximity to the edge of PSR restrictions may mean Madrid have the edge in terms of purchasing power.
Spanish outlet AS also report that Madrid are keen on Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, who rejected a move to Liverpool in the summer, and have made him their priority as a midfield target.
Eddie Howe on Newcastle outgoings
11:54 , Mike Jones
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was asked if the club had received any offers for players during this window and he replied: “Don’t think so.”
The manager then explained: “I said at the start of January we didn’t really want to focus on any outgoings. It’s not a month we want to destabilise anything.
“We need to try and keep the harmony of the group. The feeling is really strong at the moment, as you can imagine.”
Transfer rumours aren’t true says Slot
11:40 , Mike Jones
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says the most the of speculation around Liverpool’s players in the January window are just rumours and have no basis in fact.
What is known is that Real Madrid had a bid turned down for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Some of the rumours Slot is alluding to may concern the apparant interest in midfielder Harvey Elliot.
Slot said: “I understand it’s January, don’t disappoint, please come up with these clubs where players will move. Nine out of 10 times almost all of these stories aren’t true, they are rumours, keep going for it but there will be no comments from my side.”
Speaking specifically about Elliott the manager added: “He’s talented, he’s been this for so long. They are in competition with many other good players, he’s been injured and out for a long time.
“In this league, with this tempo and intensity, it is not so easy to come back and be at your best. I see this with Harvey and almost all other players that have been out. That’s the balance we have to find, to get them back to best but always win the game.”
Emery address Diego Carlos-Fenerbahce links
11:27 , Mike Jones
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery gave his thoughts on the future of defender Diego Carlos and the rumours he could be exiting the club for a move to Fenerbahce.
Sky Sports News have reported that the Turkish side were interested and would pay £10m for the player.
“When we are in the transfer window different options can happen with the players,” Emery said, “Of course we can see how important Diego Carlos was and is for us because he played consistently with us, performing very well.
“Of course, like I told you before, we are thinking in different circumstances but always trying to link and get what is best for the club, for the team and for each player.
“After those circumstances we will analyse and always try to make the best decision.”
Eddie Howe on Martin Dubravka’s future:
11:14 , Mike Jones
Speaking in a press conference this morning Newcastle manager Eddie Howe addressed the future of his goalkeeper Martin Dubravka who is currently subbing in as the No. 1 while Nick Pope is absent.
Dubravka has previously spent time out on loan, famously at Manchester United, but seems set to remain at St. James’ Park if he and the club can negotiate a contract extension.
Howe said: “Martin has never said he wants to leave. He’s been a very, very good professional for us. It’s difficult when Nick is playing and Martin isn’t. He had to stay ready.
“He’s performed well and that’s down to his training levels. Whatever the weather, he’s there. You can see what Newcastle means to him emotionally. All these things will be playing a part for him.
“I think it will help (Newcastle and Martin playing well). The team is in a good moment and he’s in a good moment. He knows he’s a part of that. The main focus is on Martin’s future. We need to clear that up with just six months left on his contract.
“I’m not totally up to date (with contract situation) with everything so I don’t want to tell you any lies but talks are ongoing.”
Ipswich beat Everton in hunt for Villa star
11:00 , Mike Jones
Ipswich Town look to bolster their survival hopes with the signing of Jaden Philogene.
Everton were also keen, but Town have struck a deal with Aston Villa for £21m plus add-ons, reports Fabrizio Romano.
A medical is scheduled for Thursday morning, with Kieran McKenna thought to have played a key role.
Isak price too high for Arsenal
10:43 , Mike Jones
Throughout the window Arsenal have been linked with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and those links were given new life after the forward’s star performance in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg victory over the Gunners.
However, various reports are saying that the fee Newcastle are setting for Isak is £150m which would break the British-record for a transfer.
Newcastle obviously do not want to sell their best performer this season and the high price is reflective of their stance. The striker has scored 13 goals and registered four assists in 18 Premier League starts this term.
Arsenal, understandably, cannot afford to get anywhere near that figure and will be moving on to other targets if they haven’t already.
Brighton receive offers for Moder
10:28 , Mike Jones
Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder reportedly has two offers on the table to leave the club.
The Mirror say that a report from Polish outlet Meczyki claims Serie A side Udinese and Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin have both put forward their interest to sign the 25-year-old.
Moder has struggled for game time under Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler and is into the final six months of his contract so a move in January is a real possibility should Brighton receive the price they want.
How Ruben Amorim can overhaul Man Utd squad with a helpful lesson from Mikel Arteta
10:12 , Mike Jones
Manchester United have received informal contact for homegrown stars like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo but, so far, nothing has come close to anything the club would find acceptable. That’s just one complication to this transfer window.
Another is what happened when a European club learned of United’s interest in one of their players. He was told to “forget the Champions League or proper European competition, and you won’t even be competing for the domestic league”. It’s been a consideration for other targets, putting players off Old Trafford. United won’t even have to deal with such hurdles until they can make sales, of course, which isn’t guaranteed.

Milan to make room for Rashford?
09:57 , Mike Jones
AC Milan are apparantly preparing to offload a forward in order to create space in their squad for Marcus Rashford reports the Daily Mirror.
Rashford, who has been on the outskirts of the Manchester United squad, seems likely to leave the club in January and has admitted he is ready for ‘a new challenge’.
Milan have emerged as the most likely destination for the 27-year-old who has already rejected three deals from Saudi Arabia in the hopes of moving to a more competitive league.
Rashford’s £325,000 per week wage at United will be a sticking point though as not many clubs can afford the same fee. The player will either have to take a pay cut to secure a move or United will have to agree to subsidise some of the wages (something they may not want to do).
Liverpool could consider Kvaratskhelia
09:42 , Mike Jones
The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool, though not currently pursuing a move, could in the future consider an attempt to sign Khvicha Kvarartskheila.
The Napoli striker has 30 goals and 29 assists in 107 appearances for the Italian side but is under contract until 2027 meaning to secure his services would require a significant fee from the Premier League leaders.
Liverpool may make their move should it be decided that the forward is to leave Napoli in January in order for the club to finanically benefit from his strong form. There has been no efforts as of yet to negotiate a new deal or an extension with the 23-year-old.
Liverpool are said to be attentive to the situation but have plenty of forward options to call on with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota all able to play from the left which is Kvaratskheila’s preferred position.
A further consideration is Napoli’s interest in Federico Chiesa who has hardly featured since moving to Anfield. Should any deal include a player swap Liverpool may be able to negotiate a lower price for Kvaratskheila.
Mitchell wanted by European clubs
09:28 , Mike Jones
La Liga side Atletico Madrid and Serie A club AC Milan are both said to be interested in bringing Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell in during this window according to The Sun.
The 25-year-old is out of contract at Selhurst Park this summer and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal though manager Oliver Glasner hopes to build the team with Mitchell as a key part of the back line.
The left back has started all of Palace’s 20 league games this season, registering three assists.
Casemiro heading to Saudi Arabia?
09:14 , Mike Jones
As Manchester United look to overhaul their squad to better suit manager Ruben Amorim’s vision rumours abound about possible exits for most of their players.
One player who is seemingly on the way out is midfielder Casemiro who the latest rumour being that the 32-year-old has agreed a contract to move to the Saudi Pro League this January.
Casemiro is now behind Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo in Amorim’s pecking order at Old Trafford and his high wage bill means he would be one of the players United’s hierarchy want to move on to cut down on costs.
Casemiro may have already agreed terms to a deal according to some reports.
MLS apologises after wrongly announcing signing of Celtic star
08:59 , Jamie Braidwood

The US club, who are managed by former Celtic boss Ronny Delia, had previously been linked with the 29-year-old Japan international Kyogo.
At around the same time as the false Kyogo story was published, Atlanta announced the signing of former Japan youth international Cayman Togashi.

Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the hunt for Marmoush, though City appear most willing to pay the £50m asking price.

05:00 , Jack Rathborn
Manchester United need a sale in order to meet Paris Saint-Germain’s €60m valuation of Nuno Mendes, with Ruben Amorim and the new INEOS leadership keen to start a badly-desired overhaul.
The 22-year-old left-back has been targeted as a key first signing to give balance to the team, but the Old Trafford hierarchy are currently short on the salary offer as well as the transfer fee.

Chelsea chasing Kobbie Mainoo
04:30 , Jack Rathborn
Chelsea are at the top of the list of clubs who want to sign Kobbie Mainoo should he depart Manchester United.
The Daily Mail are reporting that there is a stalemate in negotiations over a new deal between the midfielder and the Old Trafford hierarchy despite Mainoo having two-and-a-half years left on his current contract.
If United do sell the player it would be financially beneficial given any proceeds from a sale would go down as pure profit on the accounts.
The fans would not be pleased as Mainoo is a homegrown talent that broke into the first team under Erik ten Hag and has continued to impress.
Arsenal given hope in hunt for goalkeeper
03:00 , Jack Rathborn
Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia was a target for Arsenal over the summer and the Gunners even saw a bid rejected for the 23-year-old.
But Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza has since stated that the club could sell the goalkeeper in the future and reports from Spain, per Sport Witness, suggest the Gunners are still interested.
Arsenal had a €20m (£16.6m) bid rejected but a second bid could be successful for a player who has a €30m (£25.4m) release clause.

Arsenal in race for Nico Williams and Lee Kang In
Thursday 9 January 2025 16:00 , Jack Rathborn
A couple of Arsenal nuggets from David Ornstein of The Athletic. Firstly, the Gunners are looking at highly-rated Athletic Bilbao and Spain forward Nico Williams.
Mikel Arteta would love to sign Williams during this window but finances make it unlikely and the player himself is not agitating to leave Bilbao. His release clause €60m (although it fluctuates with inflation) and would need to be paid in full, meaning a summer move is more likely.
Arsenal face competition to sign the 22-year-old, as Chelsea are high on his list of suitors, while Liverpool looked into the viability of a deal last summer.
The Gunners may also be interested in PSG’s South Korean forward Lee Kang In. The 23-year-old is open to a new challenge and Barcelona’s interest may force Arsenal to come forward, having previously expressed interest although the price (at least double the €22m PSG paid to sign him from Mallorca in 2023) is considered off-putting.

Man City target €40m Brazil defender to step up rebuild plans
Thursday 9 January 2025 10:26 , Richard Jolly
Manchester City are interested in Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis as they start to plan for the future of their defence.
The Premier League champions hope to bring the 18-year-old to the Etihad Stadium while Palmeiras want €40m for the prospect.
City are also keen to sign another young centre-back, the 20-year-old Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
Their squad only contains two defenders they have bought in the last four years, in Josko Gvardiol and Manuel Akanji, and manager Pep Guardiola has had a host of centre-back injuries this season.
Right-back Kyle Walker turns 35 in May while central defender John Stones is 30, with both Akanji and Nathan Ake having their 30th birthdays later this year and City have started to turn their attention towards the next generation of defenders.

Done deal! Wolves sign Ivorian centre-back from Reims
Thursday 9 January 2025 10:20 , Jack Rathborn
Wolves have strengthened this month after confirming the signing of Ivorian centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims.
The 27-year-old arrives at Molineux in a £16.6m deal and becomes an option for new head coach Vitor Pereira.
“Emmanuel’s a winner and he’s driven,” Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs told the club’s website. “After the journey’s had, he’s still unbelievably hungry. He’s the type of player the Wolves fans should love, because you’re going to get absolutely everything he’s got.
“On paper, he should suit the Premier League. There’s plenty of ticks there. Obviously, you’ve always got the settling in period, and it is the hardest league in the world, so it can take time, but he can fall back on his key attributes being akin to the Premier League.
“The fact that he was on ours and Vitor’s lists shows that he’s well rounded, good on the ball, physically excellent, quick and a good personality. Then being made captain of Reims has really taken his game to the next level, and you can never have enough leaders.”

Why Liverpool’s squad worries go well beyond Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold
Thursday 9 January 2025 08:00 , Mike Jones
Some of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s more traumatic outings in a Liverpool shirt have tended to involve Real Madrid. Normally, however, it entailed trial by Vinicius Junior, a test many a right-back has failed over the years. If there are plenty of reasons to join Real, one is that he would only have to face the Brazilian in training.
In the week Real attempted to sign Alexander-Arnold in January, his worst performance of the season felt ill-timed. Perhaps only the right-back and those closest to him know for sure if the distraction caused by Real contributed to his substandard display against Manchester United. Arne Slot, often a voice of reason, pointed out it is not the only difficult day even a player of Alexander-Arnold’s standard has experienced over the years. He afforded credit to the United double act of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, citing their status as Portugal internationals, even if the inconvenient truth is that neither remotely resembles a left winger.

Paul Scholes tears into Ineos over Man Utd impact: ‘Everything is still negative’
Thursday 9 January 2025 04:00 , Mike Jones
Paul Scholes says Sir Jim Ratcliffe has done “nothing positive” during his first year at Manchester United.
Despite suffering one of the worst seasons in their recent history, United made the mid-season decision to raise matchday ticket prices to £66 per game in the Premier League, with no concessions for children or pensioners, a move which enraged some fans.
The club insist the hike would only affect a small number of fans as 97 per cent of tickets have already been sold but the remainder and resold tickets will be subject to the increase.
