To put the potential impact of widespread federal employee layoffs in view, CNN analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau to see where federal employees recently reported housing. Another way to see these numbers is to look at the areas with the most federal employees.
Methodology | CNN has had a direct impact with federal agencies, analysed dozens of statements and internal memos from government officials, and evaluated additional reports from the Associated Press, NPR, Politico, New York Times, ABC News and Reuters to determine an estimate of workers affected by the federal sector and agencies. These numbers may change based on updated figures from government officials and various media reports. In this project, CNN is not tracking federal workers who have revived after the impact of the first job.
