CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – As parents prepare to send their kids back to school, back-to-school shopping is in full swing.
According to a recent survey by NerdWallet, parents plan to spend an average of about $540 on school shopping.
Shopping can be daunting and expensive for many parents, but luckily there are ways to save money.
One way is to review what you already have at home. Some of the supplies from last year can be reused. Buying in bulk can also help, especially if you’re splitting the cost with other parents. Keeping an eye out for sales can also help you save money; most major stores are offering special back-to-school prices right now.
One of the stores running the sale is Target, where teachers can get a one-time 20% discount through Aug. 24. College students can get a one-time 20% discount through Sept. 28. Other students can shop from their “20 for $20 Supplies List,” a list of popular supplies that add up to $20.
“Customers are becoming more conscious about how they spend, and we want to make it easy and affordable for them,” Target store manager Rochelle Bouler said, “that’s why we have lots of coupons, discounts and promotions in our stores.”
Most stores’ websites also allow shoppers to search for their children’s schools and access shopping lists for those schools, and some have scheduled giveaways to help families who can’t afford supplies.
