Downtown Topeka Hotel is ranked in the top three best hotels in Kansas in 2025 in US News & World Reports.
The Cyrus Hotel at 920 S. Kansas Avenue was named the third best hotel.
US News has analyzed over 30,000 hotels to find the best hotels in the US, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean based on reputations of travel experts, guest reviews and hotel class ratings. Of the 30,000 hotels analyzed, Cyrus was ranked at 1,926 spots of the best USA hotels.
Sesswagoner, CEO and Chief Financial Officer of AIM Strategy, a Topeka-based investment group that owns the Cyrus Hotel, said the company was honored to rank third as Cyrus’ plans are to make it an attractive visitor.
“It’s always great to represent Topeka,” Wagoner told the Capital Journal. “It’s not a cookie cutter hotel. We wanted a boutique hotel experience. When we found a designer from Chicago, we wanted a very unique design, which was something that could lead to such a civil war, so Old Kansas feels we want.”
What did the report say about hotels in downtown?
The Cyrus Hotel combines modern design with a classic Midwest touch. The rooms are equipped with navy, gold, white and grey colour schemes, and the walls are decorated with traditional artwork, US news said.
The report also highlighted accommodation with free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TV, work desk and safe. Additionally, the report highlighted “three clear meetings and event spaces, from the meeting room to the ballroom.”
“Visitors provided comfortable rooms, luxury decorations, an on-site fitness centre and polite staff very free. However, a few guests pointed out that the rooms could use better soundproofing,” a US news report said.
We also shared our in-house meals at Weather Room Restaurant & Bar, which offers steaks and shareable plates for lunch and dinner, and offers a variety of options for breakfast and weekend brunch. In May 2024, the weather room was ranked as the most beautiful restaurant in Kansas and was ranked one of the 50 most beautiful people in the United States on People Magazine.
The Cyrus Hotel is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio Collection
Wagoner said the tribute portfolio has given Marriott a lot of credit as it allowed them to “write their own brand story.”
“We can talk to people who are proud of Topeka when they go there and have unique menu offerings and things,” Wagoner said. “There’s a standard for that, but we’re allowed to be ourselves.”
AIM Strategies announced in January 2021 that it will become a member of the Marriott brand, Capital-Journal reported. That year, I joined the Marriott tribute portfolio in April.
“I think it was definitely something we’ve imagined over the last two or three years,” Wagoner said. “It was a dark thing. It opened in 2019 and Covid hit us in our mouths in 2020. We had to close for three weeks. We basically rebounded until 2022.
“We were with Marriott at that point and we were very pleased with the partnership and have really taken off ever since.”
