As a former first grade teacher, I know the importance of helping children in this busy world take the time to learn to truly listen. These little Tonys will help you do just that. Parents are busy and don’t always have time to read to their children, but these little Tonys solve problems without distraction. Children are using their listening skills.
Parents can help their children further by listening to the story together from time to time and then asking them to help draw some scenes or retell the story in their own words. You can. Challenge your child to see how much they can remember from the story or ask fun questions about the story. Before you listen to another story together, you can tell them that you will create a large mural together or act out part of the story together. This will encourage them to listen with purpose and hear more details.
Eventually, as they continue to listen to Little Tony’s stories themselves, they begin to hear more details and learn to take in more information when listening to stories. Children love stories, so these little Tonys will love it too.
