According to Guinness World Records, the world’s oldest person has died at the age of 116.
According to officials, Tomiko Itooka passed away on December 29th at a nursing home in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The funeral was held in the presence of family and friends.
Itooka, who loved bananas and a yogurt-flavored Japanese drink called Calpis, was born on May 23, 1908.
According to the Gerontology Research Group, she became the oldest person to be recognized after the death of 117-year-old Maria Brañas last year.
When Mr. Itooka was told that he had reached the top of the world supercentenarian ranking, he replied, “Thank you.”
Last year on my birthday, I received flowers, cake and a card from the mayor.
According to sources, Ms. Itooka was born in Osaka and was a volleyball player in high school, and had a reputation for being intelligent and mentally strong.
She twice climbed Mt. Ontake, which has an elevation of 10,062 feet.

According to Guinness World Records, she married at the age of 20 and had two daughters and two sons.
Ms. Itooka ran the office of her husband’s textile factory during World War II, and after her husband’s death in 1979, she lived alone in Nara.
She has one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren.
According to the Gerontology Research Group, the world’s oldest person is currently 116-year-old Brazilian nun Ina Canavarro Lucas, who was born 16 days after Itooka.
