Tiger Woods returned to the competition on Tuesday, two weeks after his mother’s death, as Jupiter lost 10-3 to TGL’s New York Golf Club.
The 15 major winners who founded the Part Viature League with Rory McIlroy walked alongside his 16-year-old son Charlie before an event at the Sophie Centre.
Woods retreated from the Genesis Invitational last week and said ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt was still working through his emotions ahead of Tuesday’s TGL event.
“It’s a process,” he said. “It was a bit emotional to be here tonight because this was the last time she saw me play.
“(Teammates) kis (Kevin Kissner) and TK (Tom Kim), they gave me a big embrace.”
Woods also reflected on his mother’s support for his career in golf. “She was a hard lady. She was very disciplined and very difficult. She was very direct about her feelings, her feelings. She let you know both ways.
“But she was always very supportive of me getting out there and playing. It was incredible.”

Jupiter struggled on Tuesday, with New York scoring three points in the first three holes. More than the team managed the first two matches together.
Ricky Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young have not looked back since then. New York Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso and Yankees legend CC Sabathia took the New York lead 8-0, as they watched from the stands.
On the ninth and tenth holes, Jupiter pulled back three points, but Woods’ confusion in hole 13 summed up the team’s game.
After the tee shot left Woods 199 yards out of the hole, Caddy Rob McNamara told him “99.”
Woods then chose a wedge, hitting the next shot for 99 yards (target shy), urging Kissner and Kim to fall to the floor with a laugh.
“I heard 99 yards, so I went out there and hit 100 yards,” Woods smiled. “One of the most embarrassing moments of my golf career just happened!”
Jupiter is unlikely to be easy in the next event, with the team being set to face the undefeated league-leading Bay Golf Club on February 25th.
New York took the next action with Los Angeles on February 24th.
