Volunteers and staff from the nonprofit organization “A Precious Child” took over the Ball Arena parking lot for their 13th annual giveSPORTS Equipment Drive. The goal is to fill a large truck with new and used sports equipment to distribute to families who can’t afford it.
“For many young people in our community, participating in sports is just too expensive, with registration fees and equipment costs,” said Courtney Wickberg of A Precious Child.
A Precious Child helps families in eight counties in the Metro Denver area. The organization aims to fill gaps in services for families in need. The fundraising event allowed people to drive up and drop off donations. The fundraiser was held in partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities, and Nuggets super mascot Rocky helped test ride the bikes.
“It’s so encouraging to see the community come together because everyone understands the need for sports equipment and the need to get their kids into sports and give them the same opportunities as their peers,” Wickberg added.
Over its 13 years, giveSPORTS’ sports equipment donation drive has raised more than 239,000 pieces of sports equipment and more than $123,000 in sports scholarship funds, benefiting more than 92,000 children in the metro area.
