Take a look at this week’s top high school football games:
Thursday
Crenshaw (0-0) vs. Gardena (1-0), 4 p.m.
This is Crenshaw coach Robert Garrett’s 37th season. The school has 549 students, but Garrett continues to make progress. The Cougars still need time to get their roster to 20 or more players. They’ll face a tough matchup against defending Marine League champion Gardena, who beat Crespi 14-7 last week. Predict Gardena.
Friday
Oaks Christian (1-0) vs. Sierra Canyon (1-1), 7 p.m.
This is an important game if either team wants to make the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Both schools have good defensive lines. Sierra Canyon’s offense didn’t work last week, losing to JSerra 35-7. Oaks Christian played well in the first half in a 24-17 win over Chaminade. Prediction: Sierra Canyon.
Laguna Beach (1-0) vs. Santa Monica (1-0), 7 p.m.
If you want to see two future college quarterbacks, this is the game to watch. Laguna Beach senior Jackson Kolock is going to Minnesota. Santa Monica’s Wyatt Brown is a 16-year-old junior with a growing talent. Santa Monica has been selected.
