A new accommodation that travelers visiting Salt Lake City should check out is the Asher Adams Hotel.
Autograph Collection’s boutique properties may be new, but they’re located in Salt Lake City’s historic Union Pacific Depot, which has been around for over 100 years.
The Asher Adams Hotel breathes new life into the station, which was built in 1908 in the French Second Empire style. It originally served the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad and the Oregon Short Line Railroad.
Global architecture firm HKS led the design in collaboration with JNS Architecture + Interior Design, Lang Lighting Studio, Nine Dots Arts, Reaveley Engineers, Blum Engineers, Holmes, and MGB+A Studio.
The partners also helped build a new eight-story addition while meticulously preserving the depot’s original 48,500 square feet, including murals, skylights, stained glass, and arched windows.
“We aimed to honor the iconic Union Pacific Depot while creating a sleek, contemporary design that respects the building’s original features,” said HKS Principal Emil Tursic. I’ll tell you. “The sophisticated and restrained aesthetic of the new station addition allows us to keep the historic station front and center while introducing a modern hospitality experience that is equally timeless and appealing.”
The hotel’s lobby, restaurant and meeting space are all housed within the original train depot, as well as 13 staterooms and suites that highlight the building’s historic charm. Meanwhile, the remaining rooms are located within the newly constructed tower.
The property has a total of 225 guest rooms, four dining venues, and 9,600 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. Hotel restaurants include Rauser, an upscale New American restaurant. No. 119 is a whiskey-focused cocktail bar overlooking the Grand Hall. Counterpart, a coffee and pastry shop. The Bar at Asher Adams is a cocktail bar inspired by the golden age of rail travel.
Located in downtown Salt Lake City, our hotel offers direct access to the TRAX light rail and easy access to Salt Lake International Airport. Delta Center, Salt Palace Convention Center, and Temple Square are also within walking distance. Enjoy views of the Wasatch Mountains.
The hotel is named after cartographers John R. Asher and George H. Adams, who marked the railroad lines on the map.
“Our Asher Adams concept represents Salt Lake City’s hard-working, pioneering spirit,” says Nicole Nathan, partner at JNS Architecture + Interior Design. “One of our key priorities is to preserve and revive the rich history of the depot, connect east to west, and lay the foundation for Salt Lake City’s identity as it evolves as an international hub for business. “It was a celebration of Utah’s role as a vital link in outdoor recreation and cultural heritage.”
