Just a week ago, pop superstar Taylor Swift was the target, and now Donald Trump is attacking Oprah Winfrey for her endorsement of Kamala Harris.
Whether attacking some of the most popular and influential entertainers in American history is a sound election strategy remains to be proven, but Trump is not pulling any punches.
“I can’t help but think this isn’t the real Oprah,” Trump said during his Truth Social rant.
“This person does not want millions in prisons and psychiatric hospitals, nor does he want terrorists, drug dealers and human traffickers from around the world pouring into our country,” he wrote.
In his post, Trump noted that television host Winfrey invited him and his family onto her talk show during the final week of the show’s finale.
“It was an honor to do it with my family,” he wrote.
The episode with the family actually aired in February, three months before the series finale in May 2011. At the time, Winfrey’s show was billed as the Trump family’s first interview with his wife, Melania, whom he married six years ago.
Winfrey hosted a livestreamed interview with Kamala Harris on September 19, which doubled as a virtual gathering with other celebrity guests, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock and Ben Stiller.
“There’s really a return of optimism and hope for this new day that’s not far away but is already here,” Winfrey said during the event, which had 400 people in person and 200,000 viewers live.
The livestream featured a somewhat controversial video in which Winfrey said she was surprised that Democratic candidate Harris owned a gun.
“If someone breaks into my house, they’re going to be shot,” Harris said, laughing. She quickly denied the statement, saying, “I’m sorry. I probably shouldn’t have said that, but my staff will deal with it later.”
Winfrey is just the latest high-profile figure to be denounced by Trump in recent months.
When George Clooney became the first celebrity to express concerns about Joe Biden’s age, Trump called Clooney a “fake movie star who should stay out of politics.”
Then in September, Taylor Swift endorsed Harris after her and Trump’s first presidential debate, with Trump saying on his social media site that he “hates Taylor Swift.”
