In terms of sustainable shipping and environmental protection, the shipping industry is also paving the way for a greener future, with a combination of cutting-edge technology, renewable energy and the green initiatives of yacht manufacturers transforming the way people interact with the open seas.
Cosmopolitan Yachts, an emerging Spanish yacht builder that specializes in the design and construction of custom aluminum catamarans, has used the ongoing Cannes Yachting Festival to unveil a 125-foot (38-meter) hybrid solar-powered superyacht that blends innovative engineering, sustainable technology and extravagant luxury.
Billed as a “luxury yachting marvel,” the new catamaran is called simply Cosmopolitan 125 and is the largest model in Cosmopolitan’s lineup of multi-hull powered yachts. The Barcelona-based shipbuilder has only been in the industry for about three years but has already made a name for itself with its innovative catamarans equipped with highly efficient electric propulsion systems.
With a sleek, modern design that blends aesthetic appeal with high performance and a hybrid solar-electric propulsion system, this zero-emission new product demonstrates the shipyard’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of design, adopting sustainable practices and setting new standards for environmentally friendly boating.
Built from lightweight marine-grade aluminium, the new catamaran offers increased strength and recyclability. It boasts an elegant, modern look and, like previous models in the company’s range, features a helipad, strong, masculine lines and long expanses of glass.
However, the main focus of the design is sustainable luxury. Apart from the latest green technologies such as an unparalleled hybrid solar-electric propulsion system that delivers excellent environmental performance and transatlantic range, the multihull is built using environmentally friendly interior materials. Although the exact specifications have yet to be revealed, the shipyard says the catamaran will have an emission-free cruising speed of 10 knots.

Boasting an impressive interior volume of 500 GT, the Cosmopolitan 125 features approximately 6,500 square feet of deck space. One of the standout features of this multihull, which the shipyard describes as a “floating paradise,” is the next-generation, fully deployable Beach Club. With a large fold-down terrace that extends directly above the water, this feature transforms the vessel into a private beachfront retreat where guests can soak up the sun, enjoy seamless access to the water, or simply relax and take in the surrounding views.
The interior has been designed to provide the utmost comfort and luxury. In terms of accommodation, the ship has five staterooms, four VIP guest cabins and a luxurious owner’s suite with a private terrace on the main deck. There are three crew cabins below deck. Extensive panoramic windows are key to the ship’s design, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces and allowing for spectacular sea views from on board.
The yacht also features social areas including a variety of outdoor lounges, a large salon with TV and games area on the main deck, and a huge dining area and bar on the upper deck.
According to the shipyard, the design can be customized according to the owner’s needs and preferences: for example, the aft deck could be used as tender storage instead of a luxurious beach club, or the owner’s own cabin could be located on either the main deck or bridge deck, providing unparalleled privacy and panoramic views.
Aimed at sailors who want to explore the world’s waterways without sacrificing comfort or luxury, the Cosmopolitan 125 represents the future of responsible luxury yachting.
