THIENSVILLE — John Rosing may still be settling in as the village’s first new mayor in 12 years, but make no mistake, he’s been involved in the village for decades. Rosing, who was elected in April to replace longtime village mayor Van Mobley, has been involved in a variety of activities during his 30 years with the village, including the Downtown Thiensville Business Association and the Thiensville-Mequon Rotary.
News-Graphic asked him what makes the Village such a special place to work, live and play.
Q. What makes Thiensville a unique place to live?
Rosing: One of the under-appreciated features that makes Thiensville a special community is the pride our residents and businesses take in maintaining and improving their property. Throughout the village, you’ll see new roofs and driveways being installed, interior renovation projects underway, updated landscaping, new coats of paint and siding – all of which help increase property values and add sparkle to the village.
Our Village values neighborliness and Midwestern kindness – it’s evident when our residents walk or bike through our Village, meet each other at the parks, local restaurants and local retail stores, or take the time to wave to other drivers at intersections with four-way stop signs.
Q. What is planned for the village in the near future?
Rosings: This fall, we will begin the next phase of our “Re-Imagine Village Park” plan, which includes installing a splash pad, reconstructing the tennis courts (including four pickleball courts), and creating additional parking — all made possible through the generous donations of many residents, local businesses, and several community organizations. These improvements will be completed next spring and will be available for all to enjoy for years to come.
We are also actively working to select a developer as our partner to build a mixed-use high-rise building at the northwest corner of Freistadt Road and Cedarburg Road. This will be the first phase of a multi-phase effort to revitalize the “Thiensville Crossing” tax increment district. Stay tuned.
