The world’s population will grow by more than 71 million people in 2024, reaching 8.09 billion on New Year’s Day, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released Monday.

International migration was expected to add one person to the U.S. population every 23.2 seconds. According to the Census Bureau, the combination of births, deaths, and net international migration means that the U.S. population increases by one person every 21.2 seconds.
So far in the 2020s, the U.S. population has increased by about 9.7 million people, a growth rate of 2.9%. The US growth rate in the 2010s was 7.4%, the lowest growth rate since the 1930s.
