The engineer duo on the Build It Yourself YouTube channel have decided to build their own V-10 from Ford parts for the past three years and replace it with a wrecked Lincoln Continental. As a result, it could be the wildest project we’ve seen all year round.
The team was inspired by Ford’s 40-valve V-10 from the late 1990s to early 2000s. If you’re old enough, you’ll probably remember when Ford replaced the engine with a new Edge Mustang prototype, or when he used the 2005 Shelby GR-1 concept with the engine.
The engine never went into production, but that didn’t stop the team from building their own. They used blocks from Ford’s single overhead cam triton V-10 and machined their own dual cam heads. Instead of using standard parts for the rest of the motor, the team used upgraded valves, better springs, and a stronger rotating assembly on the bottom end. Mounted on the motor is a custom set of 5:1 headers and a six-speed manual transmission from the new Mustang.
Fitting this V-10 with the 2017 Lincoln Continental was a challenge. As these cars were targeted for engines that were crossed from the factory, the Build It Yourself team had to replace the final-generation Mustangs with front and rear subframes and create custom mount points to fit them. The firewall and interior were cut out and remade to create space for the transmitting tunnel.
The car still needs a lot of work, but the duo could drive it and drive it. And it’s as wild as you would expect from a V-10 swapped continent. Breaking the traction is as easy as pushing the throttle pedal, and the sound is incredible. I recommend listening to it yourself and increasing the volume.
