The UN says two workers were killed and others were injured after Gaza’s compounds were attacked on Wednesday.
Hamasran Health Ministry of Palestinian Territories has condemned Israel’s strike and said five seriously injured foreign workers have arrived at the hospital after the incident. Israeli forces denied attacking the UN compounds in Deial Bhara.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, Israel said it was resuming fighting in Gaza after a two-month ceasefire after launching a wave of strikes that killed more than 400 people.
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “it’s only started out as a whole.”
The UN said the situation in the case of the Deir Al-Balah compound remains unknown. Israel has not condemned death.
Separately, at least 13 people were killed in airstrikes across Gaza after Israel said it was resuming its fight with “completely power” on Palestinian territory.
Palestinian WAFA news agency reportedly killed two civilians and injured five when an Israeli drone crashed into a tent near the human belt in Almawasi.
Israeli forces said they targeted what was called the Hamas army location, where the group was preparing to fire on Israel. The ships managed by Hamas were also attacked, the army said.
The bombing is not on the same scale as Tuesday, but it has not given up on a fresh attack from Israel.
Tom Fletcher, secretary general for humanitarian issues and emergency relief at the United Nations, called the strike on Tuesday “the strength of the killings is now off scale.”
Wafa says a woman and child were killed on an air strike north of Khan Eunice overnight on Wednesday, and four other people died in the Gaza city strike.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health has yet to give deaths due to its latest strike.
Tuesday’s strike constituted the heaviest shelling since the fragile ceasefire and hostage exchange contract came into effect on January 19, after Israel and Hamas disagreeed with how to take it beyond the early stages.
The transaction included three stages, with negotiations in the second stage intended to begin six weeks ago, but this did not happen.
In the proposed second phase, Israel withdraws troops from Gaza, but Israel and the United States instead push for an extension of the first phase, with more hostages being released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
Netanyahu threw the resumption of combat as a return to Israel’s main objective – returning hostages and “removing” Hamas – the hostage families criticized the decision, saying that the government had given up on their loved ones.
Israel says Hamas still holds 59 hostages, of which 24 are believed to be alive.
Egypt, the mediator of the speech, said the new strike was a “blatant” violation of the ceasefire.
Israel previously halted all humanitarian assistance entering Gaza completely, causing widespread international warnings.
“For two more weeks, our food supplies have been corrupted at the border, the medicines have expired, the water has been cut off, the electricity has been cut off – and it’s all to punish civilians even more,” Fletcher told BBC Radio 4’s Today Program.
He said he spoke to the UN Security Council on Tuesday to lift the lockdown and get the ceasefire contract back on track, including the release of hostages.
“I’m not looking for the moon here,” the UN chief added.
He said his team was doing ‘carries’ in Gaza as they were “determined to do everything they could to save as many survivors as possible.
“They are telling us, about our values, about our values, that we cannot stop the 21st century atrocities happening right in front of our eyes.
Hamas confirmed that some of its leaders were killed in Tuesday’s strike, including Essam a Diaries, the de facto government chief.
Meanwhile, Islamic jihad, whose fighter jets took part in the attack on October 7, 2023 that sparked the current conflict, said a prominent spokesman for the armed wing known as Abhamza had been killed.
However, many civilians, including dozens of children, were also thought to be among the dead.
Regional mediators are now said to be pushing Hamas to release some of the Israeli hostages.
However, Netanyahu said all ceasefire talks will take place “under fire” from now on.
Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023 in Israel killed around 1,200 people and captured 251 hostages.
Israel responded with a massive military attack that killed more than 48,500 Palestinians, and Hamasran Health Ministry said it caused massive destruction of homes and infrastructure.
