The race for the Public Works Commissioner seat on the Saratoga Springs City Council continues. The city will hold a special election on Jan. 28 to fill the remaining vacancies.
Republican Chuck Marshall has announced his candidacy to replace Jason Golub, who resigned last year. Marshall is expected to appear on the ballot.
“We’re going to get rid of paid parking downtown because if there’s space along Broadway, it’s no longer a Saratoga treasure, and we’re going to end up doing some infrastructure,” Marshall said. “I believe there is no one more qualified to repair the drains along Gilbert Road than me, and I look forward to bringing that experience to Saratoga and the City Council.”
Democrats selected Hank Kuczynski, who was appointed interim public works commissioner in October and is running as a write-in candidate. Kuczynski said he did not intend to run, but did not feel a one-candidate election was appropriate.
“The Democratic Party asked me to be a write-in candidate,” he said. “As someone who believes in democracy and giving people a choice, I had to say yes.”
The Saratoga County Board of Elections has announced important voting dates and information for the special election here.
