Patriots announce four roster changes, including three additions, first seen on NBC Sports Boston
The New England Patriots were busy shuffling players on Tuesday.
The team signed defensive end Kobe Jones and linebacker Christian McCarroll to add much-needed depth to the front seven, added wide receiver Matt Landers via waivers and placed wideout Ja’Que Jackson on injured reserve, after the team announced all four transfers.
Jones has two NFL games of experience, appearing in one game each with the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers in 2022. He went undrafted after playing at Mississippi State in 2021. Jones also played for the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins. He played six games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL last season.
McCarroll played his college football at Division II Grand Valley State University, where he was named an All-American and the conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Year after recording 67 tackles and eight sacks.
The depth comes at a good time for the Patriots, who traded pass rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons last week, and Josh Uche and Oshane Ximinez have also missed recent practices with injuries.
Landers began his career as a rookie free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. He spent last season on the Seahawks and Carolina Panthers practice squads. He was waived by the Cleveland Browns earlier this week.
Jackson suffered a foot injury in last week’s preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Patriots close out their preseason schedule with a road game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. They have until Tuesday, Aug. 27 to whittle their roster down to 53 players.
